About Us
The Airlie Beach Cricket Club (ABCC) is a newly established Cricket club based in the vibrant and growing Airlie Beach region of the Whitsundays. Initially founded in 2022, ABCC’s primary goal is to promote and grow the game of cricket within the Whitsundays community. Central to our mission is the development of a new turf wicket at the Whitsunday Sports Park (WSP), which will serve as a catalyst for
cricket’s expansion in the greater Airlie Beach area.
The club is guided by a passionate and experienced Executive Committee, comprising current and former cricketers who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise from various community sporting organizations. Although ABCC currently
operates with a volunteer team of six dedicated individuals and has no paid members, our committee’s diverse skill set ensures strong leadership and strategic direction as we develop and strengthen the club’s presence in the region.
ABCC Infrastructure Development and Facilities
Whitsunday Sports Park – Turf Wicket
A key milestone for the Airlie Beach Cricket Club (ABCC) has been the approval for the installation of the Turf Wicket on the upper oval at the Whitsunday Sports Park, which was approved in April 2025.
ABCC has been working closely with Queensland Cricket over the past 12 months and have already secured a significant grant from Queensland Cricket to support this project, with additional funding applications currently underway with other
organizations. Our goal is to commence the turf wicket installation in September/October 2025, contingent upon securing full funding and contractor availability.
Cannonvale State School – Artificial Wicket
In parallel, ABCC has developed a strong partnership with Cannonvale State School (CSS). Following discussions over the past 12 months involving ABCC, Queensland Cricket, and Cricket Australia, ABCC has received formal approval in April 2025 to utilize all CSS facilities. As part of this partnership, ABCC will assist in the redevelopment of the school's cricket infrastructure, including the replacement of their existing cricket pitch.
